Six Critical Conversations: Talking with Your Teen
Despite how many parents feel these days, evidence suggests that their opinions and their guidance continues to matter in the lives of their children, even into their teen years and beyond. While peer group influence and school programming receives much attention, parents continue to be of central importance to the healthy development of teens. Not an easy job to say the least and Six-Critical Conversations aims to support parents in this task. By providing parents with up to date information on a variety of important topics along with tips about how to approach teens and preteens this program seeks to coach and support community parents in keeping our youth safe. Using a combination of national experts and JFS clinical staff, the following topics are covered:
- Dating, dating abuse and dating violence
- Developing healthy relationships
- Media Literacy
- Internet predators and internet safety
- Good Secrets and Bad Secrets: Discussing Peer Influence
- Teens and Sexuality, What is really going on and what to do about it
- Alcohol and drug use: a benign right of passage or high risk behavior?
- "Mom, dad, I think I might be gay"
- Developing a balanced and meaningful life
- A job, a vocation, a craft a career: Work in a perpetually changing world
