Jewish Family Services Recipient of Mazon GrantJanuary 2, 2007 Jewish Family Services, Inc. has received a grant of $8,000 from MAZON: the Jewish Response to Hunger, to help fund their Kosher Mobile Meals program and intake function of the agency. JFS, in a partnership withthe Jewish Home and Care Center, Aurora Health Care, the Jewish ChaplaincyProgram of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation, Va’ad Hakashrus of Milwaukee and Aurora Visiting Nurse Association provides delivery of kosher meals to low income, homebound elderly, enabling them to continue living independently in their own homes and ensures them healthy meals each day. In 2006, Jewish Family Service’s Kosher Mobile Meals program provided 2332 meals to the homebound and 961 meals to hospitals, rehabilitation facilities and prisons. Since 1986, as one of the largest privately supported philanthropic organizations addressing hunger, malnutrition and poverty issues, MAZON has awarded grants totaling over $34 million to emergency feeding programs, food banks, anti-hunger advocacy groups, multi-service organizations offering food, shelter and counseling, and small-scale hunger relief and development projects. Sylvan Leabman, President and CEO of Jewish Family Services, says the Kosher Mobile Meals program is “another program which enhances the quality of life for our community. Since 1867, Jewish Family Services has provided comprehensive social services to the Milwaukee area Jewish and general community.
