Older Adult Services

Family Care

Family Care is a division within the Department of Older Adult Services at Jewish Family Services. It is funded by the Milwaukee County Department on Aging.

Available Services

  • home care
  • transportation
  • home delivered meals
  • health education
  • case management

The Family Care department serves the elderly poor who might otherwise be forced to move to a nursing home. We provide in-home services such as personal and supportive home care, transportation and home delivered meals. These services make it possible for seniors to continue living in their own homes — and receive the support they need — at a fraction of the cost of a nursing home.

Our Clients

In order to qualify for Family Care, you must be at least 60 years of age and have been identified as having a long term care need.  Since it’s inception seven years ago, the JFS Family Care department has served more than 600 elderly persons.  At any given moment, our staff of 12 full time case managers, 2 part-time case managers and 5 registered nurses are working with an average of 400 seniors.

Our Staff

Our highly trained and professional staff is what makes the JFS Family Care program so exceptional.  Nurses play an active role in ensuring a client’s well being, from assisting at doctor’s appointments, medication management, working with members on range of motion exercises and conducting Diabetic training, as well as other health education. The case manager is responsible for overseeing the needs for any durable goods or just to lend an ear when the client is lonely and needs someone to listen. Oftentimes, the JFS case manager is the only family a senior has, and the caring way we comfort and provide services can help ease their current situation.
