Older Adult Services

Limited English Speaking Population

Jewish Family Services has taken the lead in creating a coalition to develop on going bilingual bicultural services for older adults that have Limited English Proficiency. In September 2005, JFS and the Milwaukee County Department on Aging offered a planning session, “The Plight of Older Adult Refugees and Immigrants: The Aging Community Responds”. Results of this one day summit on access to bilingual aging services were sent to the White House Conference on Aging and prioritized for further advocacy and action. JFS continues to work with other LEP Older Adults who do not have refugee status. JFS has also initiated a project to offer Health Education and Wellness services to immigrants from Russia and Bosnia in collaboration with Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin and Upper Michigan.
